Irish fiddler Paul McNevin(from Dublin) has launched IrishFiddle.ie, a site dedicated to the teaching and sharing of traditional Irish fiddle music through new media. Irishfiddle.ie includes free tune downloads, articles /blogs related to learning the fiddle, an irish fiddle(violin) only youtube channel and skype lessons to virtually anywhere worldwide.

Paul McNevin has been giving fiddle(in Dublin) lessons and performing for almost 20 years. He has seen hundreds of pupils, many of whom have won major championships. Paul teaches fiddle(violin), tin whistle and flute and to a wide diversity of ages.

Paul was among the first musicians to receive the Comhaltas Teaching Diploma(in Monkstown Dublin), having learned from such greats as Noel Hill and Charlie Lennon. He has taught for music schools including Walton’s school of music, Ballyfermot Senior College and Áras Chrónáin in Clondalkin. Paul has taught pupils to All-Ireland Championship-winning levels and pupils who have gone on to become artists in their own right, including Jeremy Spencer and Sinéad Madden.

Paul’s teaching was recognised and endorsed by Walton’s music shops and galleries, who then released ‘A Complete Guide to the Irish Fiddle’ (with accompanying CD), ‘Ireland’s Best Fiddle Tunes’ and ‘The Irish Fiddle’ (video/DVD, featuring Gerry O’Connor) – all of which have been bestsellers.

Paul’s family not only have traditional music in their veins, but also a tradition of teaching. Paul’s father Paddy (native of Gort, Galway) gave music lessons for years in the family home(in Dublin), with Paul absorbing all the knowledge needed to pass on the tradition through music lessons. Paul is also an avid transcriber of tunes, collecting and transcribing tunes over the last 20 years.

Paul has played with many well known musicians over the years including Stockton’s Wing, Gerry O’Connor, the Riverdance dancers and many others. Paul’s brother Davy is recognised as one of Ireland’s finest banjo players and has featured on ’50 solos for Tenor Irish Banjo’ along with Gerry O’Connor, and was Stockton’s Wing’s resident banjo player for 10 years.

IrishFiddle.ie is the first resource of its kind for Irish fiddle playing, and will continue to grow in the coming months and years.
